bristol bay DDPebble Limited Partnership (PLP) has played another card from its ever-thinning deck. It has retained the services of Clintonian Secretary of Defense William Cohen (who worked with Bill from 1997-2001) and his company the Cohen Group, which, “assists multinational clients from all sectors to pursue business opportunities and overcome problems in quickly changing markets around the world.” In other words, PLP will pay Cohen to write a scathing report about EPA efforts to restrict Pebble Mine construction under the Clean Water Act. PLP considers the actions preemptive government overreach despite overwhelming evidence that the mine would be environmentally catastrophic.

 

A collective eye-roll from the anti-Pebble camp was reported. “Here we go again,” said Alannah Hurley, the Executive Director of the United Tribes of Bristol Bay. “This is more of the same desperate PR-stunt, a bought-and-paid-for review, from a company who has lost on the science, who has lost on the truth, who has lost on public opinion.”

Cohen has not set a timeline, but has mandated full freedom for an unbiased investigation and claims he wants to consider all points of view. Sure…
