Vanity Fair writer Claire Bernard explores the adverse affects of the Deepwater Horizon spill on the lives of local fishermen living in Louisiana’s Plaquemines Parish: “B.P. is saying it will make this community whole again, but what does that really mean? Fishermen are eagerly signing up for the company’s Vessel of Opportunity, which is hiring boats and crews to assist in the cleanup—but only a few are being hired.” The number one suggestion: Go to New Orleans and support local tourism.
