Capt. Bryan “Bear” Holeman relayed a handful of sticky, tarball images to The Drake late last night. From GovMonitor—”On June 23, oil mousse was discovered between the Pensacola Beach Pier and the ranger station at Fort Pickens gate, approximately three miles in length. Cleanup crews are on site. Dime to five inch-sized crude oil tar balls and tar patties continue to be found on Panama City Beach, Destin, Ft. Walton and Pensacola Beaches and throughout Northwest Florida.”

Jackson Hole—”Fly-fishing enthusiasts in Jackson are now seeing double. As in two Jack Dennis stores.” Dennis opened a new store on the corner of King Street and Pearl Avenue last week. The shop offers guided fishing trips down the Snake River and casting lessons at Teton Pines.”

Orvis recently teamed with TU to introduce new flyfishers to the sport, as well as its leading conservation organization. Every Saturday through July, participating Orvis locations are offering free fly-casting classes as well as instruction on rigging fly-rod-and-reel outfits. Tom Bie is the founder, editor, and publisher of The Drake. He started the magazine in 1998 as an annual newsprint publication based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He then moved it to Steamboat, Colorado (1999), Boulder, Colorado (2001), and San Clemente, California (2004), as he took jobs as managing editor at Paddler, Senior Editor at Skiing, and Editor-in-Chief at Powder, respectively. Tom and The Drake are now both based in Denver, Colorado, where The Drake is finally all grows up(Swingers, 1996) to a quarterly magazine.
