Fairplay Colorado—This Saturday, June 12, the Town of Fairplay, CO welcomes all fisherman, hunters, skiers, and outdoorsman to celebrate the life of Charlie Meyers, during a full day of fishing and various daylong activities. Meyers was the longtime outdoor writer for the Denver Post, and the former editor-at-large for Angling Trade. He passed away in January. Tickets: $100. Vanity Fair writer Claire Bernard explores the adverse affects of the Deepwater Horizon spill on the lives of local fishermen living in Louisiana’s Plaquemines Parish: “B.P. is saying it will make this community whole again, but what does that really mean? Fishermen are eagerly signing up for the company’s Vessel of Opportunity, which is hiring boats and crews to assist in the cleanup—but only a few are being hired.” The number one suggestion: Go to New Orleans and support local tourism.
