Help hurricane-ravaged communities and businesses in the southern Bahamas

Reports in the wake of Hurricane Joaquin have been dire, with much of the southern Bahamas seeing catastrophic destruction from the storm. Many of the southern out islands—such as Long Island, Crooked, and Cat—have immediate needs for food, water, and sewage, according to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency. And several of the islands have seen persistent, extreme flooding for days.

Although Bair’s, on South Andros, and Abaco Lodge, on Abaco, were both unaffected by the hurricane, Nervous Waters has set up a disaster relief fund to help friends throughout the island nation. For every dollar contributed to its Bahamas Out Island Hurricane Relief effort the company will match those funds up to $10k.

In addition, the Bahamas Fly Fishing Hurricane Relief Fund was created to help members of the flyfishing industry who need help getting their businesses back up and running. “This isn’t about giving a man a fish, or teaching a man to fish (they know how to do that already), it is about getting him back out fishing again,” says the brains behind Bonefish on the Brain, blogger Bjorn Stromsness.
