GreenyWe like Utah’s Green River for many reasons. Sight-fishing. Bug-blankets of spring baetis and midges. Ridiculous trout numbers. And the fact that until now, meddling flow-spongers have been unsuccessful in their efforts to suck it dry.

Among the latter is entrepreneur/accused stalker Aaron Million, who’s Flaming Gorge Pipeline would pump 81 billion gallons of the Green annually across Wyoming to Colorado’s thirsty Front Range.

In a victory for the river ecosystem and its proponents—albeit temporary—Million’s pipeline dreams were squashed this week, when the Colorado Water Conservation Board voted to end funding for the Flaming Gorge Task Force.

TU Communications Director Shauna Sherard tells us, “It sounds like people are starting to wrap their heads around the notion that this is a pretty bad idea. Hopefully this, coupled with the recent report from the Bureau of Reclamation, will discourage others who want to make a buck on the backs of anglers.

“The problem with ideas like this is they never seem to die, so we’re going to have to stay on our toes.”

Indeed. With water a diamond-like commodity in the New West, TU says Million could be ready to submit additional proposals and that another group out of Parker Colorado is asking the Bureau of Reclamation for more information on drawing from the actual number of acre-feet of water that is available.
