Tapped: Upper Colorado Needs Support

The Moffat Tunnel pipeline (pictured here) sucks 16 billion gallons of upper Colorado River basin water annually to basically water lawns in the Front Range. Currently, more than 60 percent of Colorado River flows and more than 50 percent of Fraser River flows are being diverted. According to the Defend the upper Colorado River initiative—whose catchline is “don’t flatline the Fraser”—new proposals on the table threaten to withdraw more than 75 percent of the rivers’ historic flows, which could lead to a total ecological collapse.

“To ensure the Fraser River and the Upper Colorado continue to support fish, wildlife, and economically important recreational opportinities, citizens from Grand County to Denver are standing up to tell our government leaders that this river is important to us and worth portecting.”
