PENSACOLA—Score one for permit. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission members voted this week that draft regulations for permit—which included such obnoxious things as an open spearfishing season—need further revision.

Commissioners discussed numerous possible changes to the proposed regulations, including: Manage permit as a separate fishery from pompano; Consider making permit a gamefish; manage permit for a high abundance stock, as they already do for snook; And revisit gear recommendations.
