The local opened up on December 1st, but because it’s been so dry there’s been no reason to fish it. We got our first decent storm last weekend, and so I figured it was worth taking a drive.

Got up at 5:30, threw fatman’s long rod in the truck, and was on the water in time to see the sunrise.

The creek looked good: tannin-stained, but relatively clear. Unfortunately the King Tides had created a sand berm at the mouth. Figured since I was already here I’d practice my casting.

He wasn’t pleased.

Good to know there are some constants in this world.

Fished for a few hours.

Neil got one grab.

I got nothing.

There are worse ways to spend a morning than putting another set of goose eggs on the steelhead card.

Nice, and a helluva lot prettier than the creek I visit.

Neil has landed fish on our past two outings, but he's refused to let me take pictures of them. That's just the way it is.

We're going to try someplace new on Sunday. Apparently it's super something sports day and Neil is confident we'll be the only ones on the river. I remain skeptical.

My brother organized a trip to the Old Man’s favorite river last weekend, so I brought him along for one last ride.

It was camp life at its finest. We ate well, drank a lot of Hobo Spice, and everyone caught fish except for me.

If this guy didn’t suffer from crippling stage fright, he’d probably be a well known name on the country circuit.
